 | Interim Chair, Department of Preventive Medicine Professor of Preventive Medicine Associate Dean for Faculty Development
Dr. Van Horn's research focuses on benefits derived from a lower fat diet that is rich in fruit, vegetables, protein and whole-grain fiber. The Diet and Hormone Study, the Women's Health Initiative, and International Study of Macronutrients and Blood Pressure (INTERMAP) are a sampling of the studies in which she's participated. Multi-center collaborative trials include Multiple Risk Factor Intervention, the Diet Intervention Study in Children, and the study of Coronary Artery Risk Reduction in Young Adults. Integrating and expanding nutrition education into the undergraduate curriculum at the Feinberg School and providing continuing education for residents, graduate students, and medical faculty has been one major thrust for Dr. Van Horn. Nutrition outreach education for underserved populations has been another. She launched a program for low-income pregnant patients who attend the Prentice Ambulatory Clinic in which they received nutrition education from dietitian-supervised medical students.
Dr. Van Horn was awarded her PhD from the University of Illinois Health Sciences Center and her RD from Indiana University Medical School. Areas of specialty
